Terms of Service

1. Acceptance

By creating a Chive account or using any Chive service (web app, SMS, email, iOS app, Chrome Extension), you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use Chive.

2. What Chive Is

Chive is a personal knowledge hub that lets you save content (links, notes, text) and use AI to organize and search it. You can save content via SMS, email, the web app, the iOS Share Extension, or the Chrome Extension.

3. Your Account

• You must provide accurate information when signing up.
• You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
• One account per person. Don't share accounts.
• You must be at least 13 years old to use Chive.

4. Your Content

• You own the content you save to Chive. We don't claim ownership of your notes, links, or saved text.
• You grant Chive a license to store, process, and display your content back to you — including sending it to AI services for classification, embedding, and chat responses.
• You are responsible for the content you save. Don't save content that you don't have the right to use.

5. Prohibited Content & Use

Do not use Chive to store or process:

• Classified or government-restricted information
• Protected health information (PHI) — Chive is not HIPAA-compliant
• Attorney-client privileged communications
• Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, or similar PII beyond what's needed for your account
• Content that is illegal, abusive, or infringes on others' rights
• Malware, spam, or automated scraping of Chive itself

Chive is designed for everyday personal knowledge — articles, bookmarks, ideas, notes, and general reference material. Treat it like a smart notebook, not a secure vault.

6. AI Features

• Chive uses AI to classify, tag, search, and chat with your content.
• AI responses may be inaccurate. Don't rely on them for medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical decisions.
• Your content is sent to third-party AI providers for processing. See our Privacy Policy for details.

7. SMS & Email

• When you use SMS or email to save content or chat, standard carrier messaging rates apply.
• You consent to receive text messages from Chive when you activate the SMS feature. Reply STOP to opt out.
• SMS and email delivery are handled by third-party messaging providers. Their terms apply to message delivery.

8. Billing & Subscription

• Chive offers a free tier and a paid subscription ($5/week, billed via Stripe).
• Paid features are described on the pricing page. We may change pricing with 30 days' notice.
• You can cancel at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
• Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis.

9. Availability & Warranties

Chive is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do our best to keep the service running, but we don't guarantee 100% uptime. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Chive and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

11. Termination

You can delete your account at any time from settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. On termination, your data will be deleted within 30 days.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notice. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
